A little bird's song that tells the time
An art piece gracefully swaying inside a birdcage

Product Description:
This is an extremely rare birdcage-shaped antique clock, estimated to have been manufactured in the mid-20th century. Inside the metal cage is an elaborate little bird with a mechanism that moves in small increments to the rhythm of the second hand. The time display on the clock is a rotary disc system, where numbers engraved on the central sphere rotate, and the current time is read at the arrow's position. The base is made of real marble stone, and the overall design and texture convey a sense of luxury and stability. On the back, there is a wind-up screw and a time adjustment knob, where the engraving "FOREIGN" can be seen. This was a notation formerly used by the UK for imported goods, suggesting that the country of manufacture is most likely Germany or France. (R070110)

Special Note:
Artistic clocks featuring birds and animals were particularly popular in Europe from the late 19th to mid-20th century. At that time, clocks were not merely utilitarian objects but were regarded as works of art that could be the centerpiece of an interior. Especially in Europe (France, Germany, Switzerland, etc.), artistic styles such as Art Nouveau and Art Déco were prevalent, and designs incorporating nature, flora, and fauna were widely adopted. In 18th- and 19th-century Europe, spring-wound automatic dolls and mechanical toys called "automata" were popular among the upper classes. As an extension of this culture, music boxes with moving birds, clocks with flapping doves, and mantel clocks incorporating moving animals appeared, gaining popularity until the early to mid-1900s. This style, featuring a "birdcage shape with a moving bird and rotary time display," combines visual interest, the joy of telling time, and a sense of harmony with nature, making it a highly complete example of a design clock.
