British Elegance Since the 19th Century
Elegant Decanter Caddy with Lock Mechanism

Product Description:
This is a set of liquor decanters housed in a wooden frame, a high-quality antique from England. The handle on top of the frame can be lowered to allow removal of the bottles, and the design, which can be locked with a key on the right side, combines the practicality and playfulness typical of British design of the era. The glass bottles are made of finely cut crystal (presumed), with high transparency, and sparkle beautifully when they catch the light. The overall height of the bottles is approximately 23cm. The frame has a woody texture reminiscent of robust oak, and combined with brass fittings, it presents a classical and stately appearance. The frame is engraved with "H.J. LINTON 30 RUE FEYDEAU PARIS" and "FABRIQUÉ EN ANGLETERRE," indicating that although it was made in England, it was sold through a high-end French trading house. Additionally, the handle features a hand-carved inscription "B.B.C DROPS," which may have been made by a previous owner. (R070086)

Special Notes:
In the 19th to early 20th centuries, among the upper classes and wealthy households, it was considered "crude" to serve spirits like whisky, brandy, or port wine directly from their labeled bottles at the table. The custom was to transfer them into specially cut crystal decanters, which demonstrated status and aesthetic sensibility in social settings. Decanters also offered the advantage of being "transparent," allowing enjoyment of the drink's color. At the time, it was also common to buy alcohol "by the barrel" from wine merchants or clubs (such as members-only gentlemen's clubs) and then portion it out at home. Especially port wine, sherry, and whisky were bought in barrels and poured into decanters like this, serving only the necessary amount. Decanters housed in a "locked frame" like this also served as tools for managing alcohol within the household. There are many cases where they were used as "liquor management boxes" to prevent butlers or servants from drinking without permission. This style is typical of what would be found in British gentlemen's clubs and aristocratic homes.
